JOB OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for performing advanced database development, administration, and warehousing tasks in a leadership role for the maintenance and enhancement of multiple products. Leverage an expert understanding of the business domain and existing frameworks for the success of development projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and code, often for the most complex database solutions, products that meet business requirements on schedule and within budget
  • Mentor more junior database engineers in regard to best practices with an excellent ability to explain technical concepts in written and verbal forms
  • Establish a high level of product quality by monitoring database performance, performing database optimization, and participating in schema code reviews
  • Assist user documentation and technical support by assembling and providing concise and accurate information in regard to database functionality
  • Implement databases that follow established standards and demonstrates a good understanding of database development, database administration, and database warehousing
  • Evaluate new database technologies as they become available
  • Provide task decomposition, documentation and estimates in accordance with an expert understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Communicate to senior management by demonstrating an excellent skill in presenting technical concepts
  • Attend all meetings necessary for the seamless delivery of the product as part of the Software Development Life Cycle

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Typically 8 or more years of increasing responsibility and complexity in terms of any applicable professional experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Typically a Bachelor's Degree or global equivalent in related discipline. Master's degree or global equivalent preferred. May hold two or more industry certifications.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Advanced ability to derive and design technical specifications from general product requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of the following database development topics: data definition language, and encryption
  • Excellent knowledge of the following database development topics: data manipulation, querying, normalization, transactions, indexing, and design patterns
  • Advanced knowledge of the following database administration topics: dynamic management views, auditing, resource governor, clustering, always-on, replication, log shipping, migration, cloud-based services, and service broker
  • Excellent knowledge of the following database administration topics: backups, security, SQL trace, installation, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Advanced knowledge of database warehousing: data migration, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, master data services, data quality services, data warehouse modeling, columnstore, and partitioning
  • Advanced ability to remain current on new technology within the software industry
  • Advanced ability to implement databases derived from technical specifications
  • Excellent ability to problem solve/diagnose in a technical space
  • Advanced technical knowledge of broad business areas
  • Excellent knowledge of at least one vendor's database system
  • Advanced knowledge of data storage formats, tools, and languages
  • Ability to keep skills current with changing industry demands as identified by the department training site
