Assistant or Associate Professor of Sustainable PracticesWUAssistant or Associate Professor of Sustainable PracticesWoodbury University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor to develop and pilot curricula for a new Sustainable Practices program. The rank for this position will be that of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on experience and qualifications.Housed in the School of Architecture, the BA in Sustainable Practices is a new interdisciplinary degree that integrates knowledge of economics, policy, design , and environment to advance the field of sustainability . It promotes a rigorous understanding of how resources are used and how decisions are made in society, as well as the impact of technology and consumption on the environment. Central to the curriculum are interdisciplinary, problem-based studio courses that challenge students to develop links between the theory and practice of sustainability in real-world contexts.Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with teaching experience, professional background, and the degrees held. Contract renewal and rank advancement at Woodbury are contingent upon satisfying departmental and university criteria, which include effective teaching, meaningful engagement through creative work, scholarship, and service to the University. Woodbury University is a non-tenure granting institution.The position begins in August 2021.Salary and BenefitsAssistant or Associate Professor salary ranges between $58,934 - $85,126This position qualifies for generous University-sponsored employee benefit plans and programs (e.g., group health insurance, life insurance, tax deferred annuity plan, sick, and paid holidays), subject to the eligibility requirements and conditions of each plan and program.ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking a candidate with an expansive understanding of sustainable practices as they relate to design and policy across multiple scales.The successful candidate will help define this new program and department.They should demonstrate an ability to develop curriculum at multiple levels in the Sustainable Practices program through the exhibition of a comprehensive knowledge of new technologies in the field, the tools necessary to advance racially and socially just solutions for planetary health and health equity, and a demonstrated track-record in fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.Piloted curricula may include the following: introductory to advanced - level courses in design for climate change, environmental policy and management, environmental studies, and emerging modes of practice and/or environmental systems technologies. Our hope is that t he new faculty member will also help br oaden the program's constituency on a national scale.The candidate should demonstrate expertise in one particular aspect of sustainability while dialoging with a range of voices in the discourse.Areas of expertise may include urban and regional ecologies, computation al design, energy modelling , supply chain networks, multi-species design, earth systems science, Anthropocene studies, resource extraction, waste streams , or health equity .T he successful candi d ate will have a demonstrated track-record in advancing racially and socially just solutions within this research and in fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.Information on Woodbury School of Architecture and programs related to Sustainable Practices can be found at the links below:Woodbury University is a Hispanic Serving Institution with an undergraduate enrollment of 1,117 students, of which 68% are students of color and 48% are Federal Pell Grant recipients.
